Redeploying Articles as News Releases Can Give Your Articles a Second Wind – In 5 Easy Steps

News releases can increase your link popularity and drive search engine traffic to your affiliate offer. Many news releases sites have high authority and can rank your article on the first page of search results. More traffic from search engines can lead to additional affiliate commissions.

There are several different types of press releases including news releases, product releases, and event releases. As an affiliate marketer, a press release can simply be an announcement of a product, service, or offer.

There are many similarities between articles and news releases. In fact, news releases are just articles that announce a newsworthy event. They also have a slightly different structure.

These are the basic parts of a news release.

  • Headline – title of the news release that draws the readers attention
  • Introduction - brief summary of the contents of the news release
  • Dateline - the release date and the originating city of the news release
  • Body - explanation and details of the news
  • Boilerplate – background on the issuing individual, no-profit, or company
  • Contact Information - contact information
  • Close – use of ### indicates the end of the news release

Does this look familiar? It’s almost identical to a well written article. The following is the basic parts of an article.

  • Title – title of the article
  • Author – writer of the article
  • Summary – brief explanation of the contents of the article
  • Body – content of the article
  • Author Box – summary of author’s background and more relevant information

Converting an article to a press release is a simple 5 step process.

  1. Choose one of your articles which describe a new offer or something new concerning a product, service, or offer. This could be pricing, discounts, features, benefits, brands, partnerships, versions, release dates, current events, or any other newsworthy item you could think about.
  2. Edit the title of your articles to reference this newsworthy event.
  3. Remove the author notice from the article.
  4. Add the city where you live and today’s date to the beginning of the first line of the body i.e. Washington, DC September 19, 2008
  5. Add ‘###’ to the end of the article.

In five simple steps you now have a workable press release that you can submit to new release directories across the Internet. This may not be as good as a press release written from scratch but it will build back links and traffic from search engines.

The more articles you convert to news releases, the more traffic you can drive to your affiliate offer. Leveraging the articles you already have written will help you generate more affiliate commissions.
