How prominent are your keywords within your web page? Keyword prominence refers to the prominence of your targeted keyword within your web page.
Search engines use keyword prominence to help determine the relevance of a page. The keyword prominence of your page will influence the ranking of your page in search engine results.
Where you place your keywords within your web page copy can help you increase your keyword prominence. Placing your keywords in the right location on your web page will yield sustained traffic over the lifetime of your page.
Titles
Titles are probably the most important location to place your keyword. Titles appear at the top of the web browser in the title bar. Search engines use titles to help them determine what a page is about. You should place your targeted keyword at the beginning of the title. Also, make sure each page in your site has a unique title.
Headers
The headers in your page should include and begin with your keyword. Headers are usually marked with the h1, h2, and h3 HTML tags. Headers carry more prominence than normal body copy and should always be included in your page.
Body
Your keywords should also appear in the first sentence, of the first paragraph, of your web page. This will help increase the prominence of your keyword.
Within the body of your page you should use keyword rich copy. Keyword rich doesn’t mean that you spam your copy with your targeted keywords. Instead, you can also include variations or synonyms of your keyword.
Adding bold (strong) or italics (emphasize) isn’t as important, but it can help with your SEO. Using the bold, strong, italics, and emphasize HTML tags can help identify the keywords in your web page.
Meta Tags
Keywords that are placed within the meta-description HTML tag offers little to no prominence value. The meta-description tag is primarily used as the description within search results.
ALT Tags
Placing keywords in the ALT tag will also help increase your keyword prominence. Also, to a lesser extent, having keywords in the domain name will also help build your keyword prominence.
Make sure you are careful not to over-optimize or spam your page with keywords. Write content that can be naturally read by humans. Avoid rewriting and inserting keywords into your content that will make it incomprehensible.
Keyword prominence can help you increase your search engine ranking and subsequent traffic. Placing your targeted keywords in strategic places within your web page can greatly increase your SEO results.
