Latent Semantic Indexing, LSI, LSA, Blah Blah Blah

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is the one of the concepts that search engines use to determine the relevancy of pages in their search results. LSI has been factored into the Google search engine algorithm.

The most important word in Latent Semantic Indexing is semantic (synonyms). LSI and other semantic methods focus on analyzing the content, including keywords, of a page. They attempt to identify all of the related terms and synonyms in your page to help determine the relevancy of the page.

Semantic indexing places additional emphasis on related terms and synonyms on a page. This helps to combat keyword stuffing and over optimization techniques in search engine optimization.

The short-term and long-term ranking of your web pages are influenced by the semantic relevance of your page. There are some techniques you can use to optimize your page for semantic indexing.

  1. Add synonyms or related terms to your page and vary them within your header tags, anchor text, page title, content, and any other optimized section of your page.
  2. Avoid keyword spamming and stuffing by keeping your keyword density within 3% - 6%.
  3. Create natural language content that humans can enjoy.
  4. Don’t over optimized pages with keywords and markup.
