Forums or discussion boards are sites where people exchange information on a variety of topics. Forum marketing is one of the oldest marketing strategies on the Internet. It involves engaging in discussions about a specific topic or niche at online forums. There are many reasons why affiliate marketers use online forums to market their offers.
- Get advice about an offer, affiliate program, affiliate network, or promotion
- Get answers about a question
- Discover new strategies, tactics, tips, ideas, tools, and offers
- Network with other affiliate marketing industry professionals
- Build their brand and authority
- Conduct market research
- Promote an affiliate offer
Traffic from forums is usually targeted and converts higher than most other Internet marketing strategies. Forums drive traffic to your site in two ways:
- Users of the forum
- Search Engine Traffic
Many forums rank high in search engines including Google. Forum threads that rank high for targeted keywords will drive a ton of search engine traffic to your site. Also, the links you posted in forums will increase the link popularity and search engine rank of your site for your targeted keywords.
Forum marketing is a proven Internet marketing technique that is used by experienced affiliates. Promoting your affiliate offers through forums can be one of the most powerful promotional techniques in your arsenal.

I do use forums to generate traffic to my website. I prefer for people to join my mailing list, so my signature file directs people to my mailing list. I've actually sold some of my services as a result of my mailing list, so I know this works
I agree that forum marketing can be one of the most effective methods today. However, most affiliates are unaware of how to properly utilize this technique, and end up doing themselves more harm than good.
Along with encouraging the use of forums in marketing, we should also encourage affiliates to really take the time to learn how this technique works. Success with forum marketing DOES NOT happen overnight, and no success can be had from spamming forms with links and posts that are of little or no quality for other readers.
If you're going to incorporate forum marketing in your overall strategy, I strongly suggest you take the time to learn more about using forms, particularly for business. You'll save yourself a lot of time and headache, and avoid a world of trouble.
